Course Information
Description A study of the research and theory in the psychology of learning, cognition, and motivation, factors that impact learning, and application of learning strategies. The course assists the student in making adequate social and personal adjustments to college life, developing educational and career goals, and becoming familiar with institutional curricula and policies. Week 1: (December 14-20): "Nothing is IMPOSSIBLE. The word itself says I'M POSSIBLE" -Audrey Hepburn
-students will learn to identify negative self-talk
-students will identify strengths and weakness of personal values, beliefs, and attitudes
-student will learn to identify imposter syndrome
-students will examine their paradigms and understand why they think the way they do.

Week 2: (December 21-27): "Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live it's whole life believing that it is stupid."-Albert Einstein
-students will gain an understanding of various types of knowledge
-students will discuss a variety of theories of learning and cognition
-student will identify different learning styles

Week 3: (December 28-Jan 3): "Don't expect to see a change, if you don't make one".
-students will identify internal and external distractions and apply strategies for overcoming these.
Special emphasis will be placed on personal responsibility, self-management, employing interdependence, emotional intelligence, gaining self-awareness, believing in self, and self-motivation. Students will also learn and apply basic study skills that facilitate becoming engaged lifelong learners.

Week 4: (January 4-Jan 11): "Never regard study as a duty, but as the enviable opportunity to learn"-Albert Einstein.
-student will develop vocabulary for effective study habits.
-student will identify and evaluate good and bad study habits.
-students will apply reading strategies to improve reading comprehension.

Instructor Policies I will not discuss your grades over the phone or by email. If you want to discuss your grades, you must come to my office, in person.
Attendance Policy This course is virtual, however students a minimum of three times a week. All assignments must be turned in on or before the deadline.
Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
